Who should have the rights with digital rights?

Digital rights are peoples human rights on the internet. They pertain to your ability to use, create and publish digital media. When it comes to copyright laws thing get controversial though. Many people disagree on what people should be allowed to take and what they shouldn’t from the internet. Many artists feel like they are being cheated when they see their work taken by someone who is making a profit off of it. While a lot of artists also think that their should be no limitations and that people can you things in anyway they want. In my opinion when something like a picture is found online and is not being used to make money then the person should be free to do what ever they want with the picture as long as they cite the original photographer. This way no harm is done to either party. The original artist gets to to be credited and get the free publicity while the person using the work is free to do what they want with it. Now if someone is making money from the work things change a lot. While I still think the person should be able to do anything they want with the work they should be forced to cite and pay a portion to the original artist. If your making money off of someones work don’t you think they deserve to have a portion of the money. If your in the eyes of the artist you would be very upset to see someone take your work and make money off of it. So if you were paid then you would be earning money for work without having to do anything. Now if your in the eye of the re-user then you may be upset that you aren’t make all the money but since you didn’t do all the work it makes since. So you can see that my idea provides a healthy medium for both users in this problem. Now when it come to the topic of how long should something take to become part of the public domain. It should be however long the founder themselves is alive. If an artist is alive they should be able to profit off the work they created. If we applied this to say Disney this would mean characters like Micky mouse and Donald duck are free for anyone to use because Walt Disney is dead. Likewise for Disney to use minions or Shrek like in the picture below. Now you might think well now places like Dream Works will make a Micky mouse movie but why would they want to prompt the Disney brand. Because even if they don’t have exclusive rights to Micky mouse it is part of their brand. Any artist should be credited and compensated for their work if money is being made form it as long as they are alive.
